Somerset – Bellevue, WA
The subdivision of Somerset, found in the town of Bellevue, Washington, is a beautiful area. The word “Bellevue” means ‘beautiful view’ in French, and from Somerset, it’s easy to see why.
Washington and Seattle stretch out in the distance, and the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains are clearly visible. People go on vacation to get views like this one, but it’s readily available from any of the 2500 homes in the area.
Somerset offers much to prospective residents, including the view. It’s a young and hip area, with roughly 25% of the population being under the age of 18. Even so, it only makes up 6% of the total Bellevue population, with 2519 housing units and a total population of 7659. The crime rates of this area are low while per capita income is higher than average, making this location a fantastic one to settle down in.
Catering to the young people in the Somerset area are some of the nation’s best schools. Between Somerset Elementary School, St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic School, Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, and Hillside Student Community, there are four schools for just around 2000 students.
This means that the classroom sizes are much smaller, and that students get much more personalized attention at each location.
Bellevue is an area high in job opportunities, and eBay has recently announced it will be moving some offices to the area, providing even more jobs. Bellevue is a community that appeals to many young professionals, and has an unemployment rate of just 6.1%, much higher than the surrounding areas.
Nature is close by for those who like to get out and hike. The Puget Sound isn’t far away, and the Olympic Mountains are visible on the horizon, providing great mountain climbing opportunities for those interesting. Closer to home, attractions include the Somerset Recreation Club, which hosts many different events throughout the year, as well as competitive swimming and tennis programs.
The Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair is also held during July, and the biennial Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition draws national attention to the works of artists from around the country.
Bellevue is also home to the basketball team the Bellevue Blackhawks, although the team hasn’t been active since 2006, and the home of many well-known athletes and musicians. For families with young children, the KidsQuest Children’s Museum offers attractions and exhibits that would appeal to those young at heart, and the Bellevue Arts Museum offers sights for the high-minded.
Somerset has a lot for everyone. While the community itself doesn’t hold many attractions, it is located close to many. The community itself is perfect for young professionals or those with small children, as the area is quiet, safe, and very community oriented.
