Chuckanut is located in the gorgeous town of Bellingham, Washington, a small city of around 80,000 residents that offers a community of great schools, local attractions, and outdoor opportunities.

Bellingham

Bellingham is something of a college town and holds several colleges and universities; the largest of which is Western Washington University with more than 15,000 students.

Lake Whatcom

One of the several outdoor spots surrounding Chuckanut is Lake Whatcom. The lake is a beautiful natural resource that provides the local public water supply and is the source of Whatcom Creek. Every summer, on Wednesday evenings, canoeists and kayakers race across the waters in both recreation and competition.

Whatcom Falls Park

Whatcom Falls Park is a whopping 241-acre public park containing the Whatcom Creek Gorge jolting directly through the heart of Bellingham. The public park offers miles and miles of walking trails and four sets of waterfalls, and is a hub of outdoor activity connecting and giving life to several different neighborhoods of Bellingham, including Chuckanut. Very popular, residents partake in various activities during the warm months of the year, including fishing, swimming, and walking along the many trails.

The Snows

Bellingham is a powder destination with all the bells and whistles. The Mount Baker Ski Area holds the world record for the greatest amount of snowfall (95 feet) in one season – won the winter of 1999 – and is the home of many of the world’s first snowboarding champions. The ski area is renowned for holding plenty of challenging in-bound routes and for the many backcountry routes that encompass it.

Inaugurated in 1985, a slalom snowboard race through the natural halfpipe dubbed the Legendary Banked Slalom has evolved into an international event, attracting professionals from around the globe along with amateurs of all ages and capability to compete on the course with each other. The winner in each category receives an embroidered Carhartt jacket and a duct tape trophy.

Along Chuckanut Drive

Along Chuckanut Drive, residents stroll and enjoy cliffside views of the sea, the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains, the hills and forests of the Chuckanut mountains, and several small picturesque bays along the edge of the Salish Sea.

Chuckanut sits as a neighborhood smack dab in the middle of an outdoor oasis, opportune with a host of various activities that cannot be offered elsewhere, unique to the community.
