The Puget neighborhood in Bellingham, Washington is located several miles east of downtown and the waterfront. It is situated on a hillside setting between Western Washington University and Whatcom Falls Park, with easy commuter access to I5 and other major roads.
The area is only a several-minute drive from coffee shops, restaurants, bars, art and music venues, parks, and schools, with even hiking trails nearby that lead through the Sehome Arboretum. The area is mostly residential, with some commercial space to the north by Lakeway Dr., and some undeveloped land to the south. Many luxury houses boast hilltop views of Bellingham Bay, the San Juans, Mt. Baker, and the Cascade mountains, while more affordable homes and rentals are still plentiful and often share many of these features.
Bellingham in general is home to several dozen public schools and universities. Puget neighborhood is less than two miles from Western Washington University and Sehome High School, while even closer are the esteemed Kulshan Middle and Wade King High schools. The Wade King Elementary school recently received a 9/10 rating from GreatSchools.org, while Kulshan Middle school and Sehome High school both received 8/10’s.
The Civic Athletic Complex, the most active recreation facility in the city, is home to the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, Civic Stadium, Joe Martin baseball field, the Sportsplex indoor ice and soccer facility, Frank Geri softball fields, a skate park, and bike park, walking trails, and tracts of undeveloped forest and wetland areas.
Lakeway Dr. to the north is also home to a variety of restaurants and grocery stores while crossing Yew St. to the northeast takes you to Whatcom Falls and Bloedel Donovan Park.
This recreation area has an off-leash dog zone, picnic, and barbecue facilities, as well as sand volleyball courts and a boat launch. At the far end of Lake Whatcom, recreational boating equipment can be rented.
